Tucked under the covers inept of sleep,
staring through the heavy darkness taunting,
harsh whispers cutting as worried thoughts seep
in a hurried river of fear daunting.
Regrets of yesterday, pains of today,
concerns of tomorrow- if one exists-
a dizziness spiraling sense astray
into an abyss of jive that persists.
Tossing and turning, begging for sweet peace,
an hour of freedom from this torment-
to feel the wonder of soothing release,
yet another vision creeps in ascent.
And so I lay, ruby eyes without glow,
deadened by the length of sleep I'll not know.
