Do You Recall Saturday Afternoons?

Do you recall Saturday afternoon, Baby,

Running to and fro the old, sandy Nissan- family size-

Picking and packing, and stacking small Lays bags and

Large Ziplocs of veggie chips?

Do you recall Saturday afternoons, Baby,

Laying out the diversely colored bathing towels-

Mine blue, yours black, but yellow sunshine

Spoke our hearts?

Do you recall Saturday afternoons, Baby,

Molding sand castles far too near the shoreline,

Watching them tower and melt, but this

Was never a place of grievance, so we giggled and built New York City?

Do you recall Saturday afternoons, Baby,

Sipping ice cool water, licking our cotton-candy covered lips

And soft vanilla ice cream, tossing the beach ball into the ocean breeze,

Inhaling the sweet, fragrant scents of unconquerable joy?

Do you recall Saturday afternoons, Baby,

When the gently faded moon climbed the cloudless sky

And the world seemed free of drama and life’s anxiety-

Just our sisterly love and laughter and our parents calling us home?

Do you recall when evening came and afternoon was no more?
